"Stop, Look and Listen"
I have to stop to start it,
So I can hear Him speak,
But if I do not listen,
My past will just repeat.
Be still before you do it,
So His power you can claim,
For if I don’t receive it,
My life will never change.
Looking unto Jesus,
Yes, keep your focus strong,
If you keep your eyes on Jesus,
You just can’t go wrong.
Listen for the Spirit,
If you have ears to hear,
He says that He will lead us,
Lives in us and is near.
Stop and look and listen,
It’s old advice they gave,
But not a bad idea,
For those God came to save.
“Be still and know that I am God…” (Ps. 46:10, NLT)
Being still is a challenge for most of us. That’s because our lives are defined by our busy-ness and ability to get things done. But stillness is a big value of scripture. It implies drawing aside for contemplative reasons and re-centering our spiritual attentiveness. How important, but especially in holiday seasons like these. Things get downright frenetic, and the stress and burn-out are palpable. What would it be like of we intentionally chose to be still for a few moments each day to pray and focus on the Lord. It certainly could do us not harm. It might just change everything.
Lord, help us to stop, look and listen for You, in Jesus’ name.
