"Story"
Ever since before back when,
The cowboys told their tales,
They talk about their rides and then,
Their many winding trails.
You’ll hear ‘em talk about a hand,
Who tops the tough ones off,
That rank bronc that he got fanned,
That sent the rest aloft.
And over time the story grows,
‘Round campfires when it’s told,
And with a wink the best ones know,
It never will get old.
Cowboy stories, horses rode,
As long as horseback men,
Rough string broncs that they have knowed,
And tried to top back when.
Now they whisper, gentle teach,
A young horse to behave,
In the TV clinics teach,
Right over those air waves.
Eight seconds in the rodeo,
Will earn a great big check,
But those old rides from long ago,
And every single wreck,
Happened oh so far from town,
No phone or video,
With almost no one else around,
The story’s all we know.
So listen up to what they say,
Of horses way back when,
Another time, another day,
The top hands rode ‘em then.
“Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary.” (Psalm 107:2, NIV)
Story is one of the most powerful aspects of humankind’s shared experiences. We pass along to our children the stories told to us by our parents. Traditions, both natural and spiritual, have a very strong impact on our behavior. The story of the Savior and what He has done for us is the most powerful of all. There is a unique anointing on our testimony, and those who share it are never at the mercy of someone with a mere argument. The story of God’s love is too good not to tell!
Lord, help us to share the story of what You have done for us, in Jesus’ name.
