"Surprised"
I’m really quite surprised by,
The frequency of lies by,
Those who win the prize by,
What they claim is true.
But I can only measure,
The ones who do take pleasure,
In falsifying treasure,
By what God says to do.
There are not ten suggestions,
That call for predilections,
Of wind-blown, damned dissections,
To suit our every whim.
No, it would be far better,
Pulled finger from the weather,
And just came back together,
Deciding to serve Him.
God’s Word shows us God’s will, y’all,
And if we will be still, y’all,
And trust in Him to fill, y’all,
We will be full again.
And not so blind and weary,
Heart-broken, empty, teary,
And no more scared and leery,
We’ll turn from every sin,
We’ll turn to Him to win,
We will be full again.
“I will delight in Your decrees and not forget Your word…” (Ps. 119:16, NLT)
Life is a mystery in so many ways. By the time we learn something about it, it’s almost over! The edge in understanding how to live is found in the Bible, which contains what we need for both time and eternity. What God has decreed, commanded, counseled and encouraged us to do in those pages lays out an undeniable blueprint for living. When we decide we have become too sophisticated to take seriously the morality and relationship with God the pages show us, we miss the truth that alone can set us free to be all we are created to be. I am not talking about superficial legalism, shallow fundamentalism, or the idolatry of worshipping the written word in any shape, form or fashion. I am talking about a vital, personal, life-changing relationship with God HImself, whose Spirit indwells and empowers us. And He is the one who inspired every word of scripture. How often can you read a book and have it explained to you by its author? And yet that’s exactly what God offers us. Don’t miss the great adventure!
Lord, help us to take seriously what You have said and continue to say to us through Scripture, in Jesus’ name.
