"Tell Me Why"

Tell me why those in blue,

Are vilified with hate,

Though our first responders,

Are rarely ever late.

Tell me why our veterans,

So often find no hope,

All too often take their lives,

When they run out of rope.

Tell me why we celebrate,

The right to end a life,

Before it even has as birth,

With tragedy so rife.

Tell me why we can forget,

The gender in our jeans,

When male and female are God’s plan,

God says just what He means.

Tell me why we’re so afraid,

To hear a heartfelt prayer,

Uttered clear in Jesus’ name,

Out in the public square.

Tell me why what’s right and wrong,

Has gotten so confused,

There is no moral compass,

God’s law has been refused.

Tell me why our children.

Are so stressed out and sad,

When they ought to be care free,

It’s gotten really bad.

Yes, I have these questions,

And many, many more,

I suspect the answers,

Go to the basic core,

Of what the Bible tells us,

And all it says is right,

Lord, turn back the darkness,

And lead us toward the light.

“While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light.” (John 12:36, NAS)

Jesus is the light of the world that shines His good news into our hearts. But some do not respond to the Light. They fear exposure and love the darkness, so they run from God’s light. They have their reasons but any excuse will do. How far does the Light chase after them? No one knows for sure, but God is truly the Father who pursues His wayward kids. Jesus made a strong point in this verse. Believe while you have the light and your life will be transformed. Run from it and the darkness will eventually overwhelm you.

Lord, help us become sons of light, in Jesus’ name.
