"Tired"

Tired, so very, very tired,

Exhaustion born and often sired,

By all I did that was required,

And now sometimes look back.

And wonder what it all was worth,

Or if the width and depth and girth,

Was just an exercise in mirth,

It can my mind attack.

I think of all the used to be’s,

Things I regret and if you please,

The years stack up with memories,

I should have more to show.

I worked, was not a lazy man,

But failure brought a different plan,

And now I wonder if I can,

Still get things done, you know.

I’ve always thought I’d cowboy up,

Trust in the Lord to fill my cup,

Stay in the hunt, a full-grown pup,

And let the Spirit lead.

I am not through till God says done,

Until then He says for me to run,

Let go the past, the victory won,

His grace is all I need.

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NIV)

This is one of the best things Jesus ever said and one of the greatest things He ever promised. All who are weary and burdened may come. Who isn’t?! Maybe not all the time but every mother’s son has gotten physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted at one time or another. Those moments make us extremely vulnerable, and our enemy knows it. Maybe that’s why Jesus makes this a specific point. Don’t look for rest in the wrong places, son. I’m offering you relief from every burden, forgiveness for every sin and freedom from every bondage! Sweet rest!! Get some, and let Jesus show you how to live.

Lord, give us rest, in Jesus’ name.
