"Told and Tolled"

Sometimes when handling cattle,

It’s best to toll ‘em in,

It sure can make it easy,

When moving them, my friend.

I know it ‘cause I’ve done it,

But before that I was told,

In fact I might have argued,

Instead of being sold.

‘Cause back home we always drove ‘em,

Just pushed ‘em, make ‘em go,

But that old cowboy method,

Ain’t always right, you know.

The smaller ranches do it,

‘Cause they can bring the cubes around,

And the cattle hear ‘em coming,

And gather to the sound.

On a larger scale they do it,

Using water as the key,

Theirs is a combination,

To make ‘em go where they should be.

I’d been told about the tolling,

Then I did what I was told,

And it turns out that the tolling,

Was the best way I could roll.

Sometimes I think the Good Lord,

By the Word and by the Spirit,

Makes certain we are clearly told,

If only we will hear it.

And then no doubt he tolls us,

When pastures we much change,

And it’s always best to follow,

When He leads us to new range.

“…for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring Word of God.” (1 Peter 1:23, NAS)

God is always trying to communicate His word to us because it has so much power to change our lives. We are born again through His word and we lead a new life because of it. He is constantly drawing us to Himself and to the doors of ministry He opens for us. Change can be uncomfortable but that’s where the spiritual food is placed on the table. Come and get it!

Lord, help us receive Your word, in Jesus’ name.
