"Wait"

Are you good at waiting,

But think with me a bit,

Impatience can be stressful,

When you consider it.

Like when one gets pregnant,

Be it filly, heifer, gal,

You just can’t rush the process,

Months in the home corral.

And when the ground is tilled up,

And the seed is planted deep,

You cannot rush the harvest,

Takes time before you reap.

And when you go to prayin’,

You sometimes have to wait,

For God to give the answer,

Though He is never late.

And if we’ll wait upon Him,

He will renew our strength,

And we’ll learn love’s dimensions,

The height and width and length.

No, I’m not good at waiting,

But He says the ones who will,

Will run and not be weary,

He with His Spirit fills.

“…those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength…” (Isaiah 40:31, NIV)

Those who hope, and wait for God to fill in the blank will have their strength renewed. The alternative is stressful impatience or filling in the blank ourselves, invariably with something or someone that is not God’s best for us. God is extremely patient with His impulsive, ready-shoot-aim children. Waiting can seem like scaling Mt. Everest or some other impossible task. But waiting doesn’t mean passivity or even inactivity. It simply means we trust the Lord to lead us, and though we are about our Father’s business, we are not motivated by our reactions but rather by the Holy Spirit’s direction. When this happens we realize that God is always on time and we can be, too. But only if we learn to wait on the Lord.

Lord, help us learn to hopefully wait on You, in Jesus’ name.
