"Wanderling"

I’m prone to be a wanderling,

The trail keeps calling me,

Not afraid of wandering,

To see what I can see.

A good horse that can cover ground,

The view from that next hill,

Especially with none around,

That really fits the bill.

I’ve seen the west coast ocean,

The great grand canyon, too,

Majestic Rocky Mountains,

Wyoming’s sky so blue.

I’ve ridden grazing leases,

In Nevada, Idaho,

Felt high desert breezes,

On steep descent went slow.

Seen Bama’s white sand beaches,

And chased her cattle, too,

The Holy Land’s far reaches,

Got camel-back it’s true.

But no matter where the long trail leads,

I feel the Spirit’s pull,

And He will meet our every need,

And fill us till we’re full.

He promises His leadership,

He helps us not to stray,

His gifts and fruit they will equip,

And He will always stay.

So if you are a wanderling,

Remember who will lead,

And learn to keep your wandering,

To pastures where He feeds.

“He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength.” (Psalm 23:2-3)

The Lord has promised to lead us as a shepherd cares for his sheep. The benefits of the good shepherd are many, but perhaps one of the most powerful is that. He will lead us where we need to go. This is important for many reasons, but above all, if we are not led by the Lord we will miss His purpose and plan for our lives. He wants to strengthen us, feed us, and bless us in every way. But this is only possible when we surrender entirely to His leadership. If you’ve wandered, it’s time to recognize the Shepherd right now, and follow Him again.

Lord, teach us to follow Your leadership, in Jesus’ name.
