"Way Out Here"

We’re way out in the country,

With a dead end down the way,

So there’s no through traffic,

When people come, they stay.

And everywhere you look you’ll see,

The wildlife we enjoy,

The deer and turkeys, watch ‘em go,

Just bless this old cowboy.

I was raised out in the country,

On a gravel road, it’s true,

But lived in town because of work,

It’s what I had to do.

But finally full circle,

Back to what I love,

I credit God’s own favor,

A good gift from above.

And, no, I don’t deserve to hear,

The coyotes when they sing,

See geese rise from the Brazos,

Or the bluebirds on the wing.

The deep scarlet of the cardinals,

The hummingbirds’ light touch,

The horses grazing ‘cross the fence,

I love this place so much.

Lord, thank You for the quiet,

And what You created here,

Help us not take it for granted,

And know Your presence near.

“Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father…” (James 1:17, NLT)

Prayer doesn’t give us everything we want. We all know that. To think otherwise would be like earthly parents giving their children something that was not good for them, just to appease their whining. God is not in the appeasing, indulging business. On the other hand, Jesus said if we know how to bless our kids with good gifts, how much more will He give good gifts to those who ask. The Psalmist said that if we delight in Him, He will give us our heart’s desires. James said every good and perfect thing we have comes from the Father. ALL this to say that we have a loving and very generous heavenly Father who really does want to bless us. Believe it.

Lord, thanks for every good and perfect gift You send, in Jesus’ name.
