"When"
When grace is what we really need,
The Spirit brings with timely speed,
There is no error in His read,
When grace is what we really need.
When my heart breaks but cannot cry,
The Spirit brings some comfort by,
Relieves what makes me sit and sigh,
When my heart breaks but cannot cry.
When I’ve run out of strength to go,
The Spirit brings His wind to blow,
And fills my sail His power to show,
When I’ve run out of strength to go.
When I can’t love the way I should,
The Spirit loves, I knew He would,
And flows through me to make it good,
When I can’t love the way I should.
When I am angry, bitter, mean,
And won’t forgive, and let go clean,
The Spirit heals the wounds unseen,
When I am angry, bitter, mean.
When I’m unsure of what I’ll do,
And so bogged down in this world’s stew,
The Spirit points to heaven true,
When I’m unsure of what I’ll do.
And when it’s time for me to go,
Leave this life so far below,
The Spirit transports there i Know,
When it’s time for me to go.
“All who are led by the Spirit are children of God…” (Rom. 8:14, NLT)
Being led by the Holy Spirit is a sign that we are children of God. This doesn’t mean that children of God always follow the Spirit’s leading. It just means that being Spirit-led is their privilege. One does not even have to be aware that the Holy Spirit has led them to do this or that. In fact they may have little awareness of it. Doesn’t matter, really. What matters is that our hearts want to be led, and to do God’s will as we understand it. It means we live biblically, but not simply by our best efforts. It means we acknowledge how much we need God’s grace to get it right. A good, heartfelt “Lord, have mercy” is a great place to begin. It’s also a good way to end.
Lord, have mercy and lead us by Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
