"Word"

The more I read the Bible,

The more things that I find,

That make me think the Spirit,

Had me on His mind,

‘Cause every time I turn a page,

I read about my life,

The good things that the Lord has done,

To end my sin and strife.

I read about the struggles,

Of believers from before,

And there I see God’s plan for me,

The closed and open door.

And all the people that He used,

Remind myself of me,

‘Specially when they got things wrong,

But God’s truth helped them see,

That they, though flawed, were chosen,

To know and do His will,

And God’s grace came right through them,

And He will do that still.

It gives me hope and courage,

That it is not too late,

For God to use the likes of me,

And it’s not up to fate,

But to the Lord’s own faithfulness,

His Spirit for the race,

And those pages promise me,

That soon I’ll see His face.

I open up the Bible,

And there I read of me,

I pray to share the Spirit’s truth,

That sets the captive free.

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit…” (Hebrews 4:12, NLT)

When this verse speaks of the word of God, it is not specifically speaking about the Bible. It is talking about God speaking directly, by His Spirit, to the people as they came through the wilderness experience. That said, the Bible contains words that the Lord spoke through His servants, and if we have a listening heart, He will use those words to speak to us. The One who inspired the scripture will use the scripture to speak to our lives and experience. And the more we read the Bible, the more we will be able to recognize the Lord’s voice when He calls us to obey Him. The word the Lord speaks is life-changing, and He has promised His children will be able to hear His voice.

Lord, help us hide your word in our hearts, in Jesus’ name.
