"Word"

The Book calls it a rudder,

That which turns a mighty ship,

A tiny spark that lights a fire,

In a horse’s mouth the bit.

Might seem too small to matter,

But you see it’s life or death,

Determines our eternity,

When we draw our final breath.

For if our hearts are filled with faith,

And with our mouth confess,

All who call upon His name,

Will have the Father’s best.

If by the Spirit we control,

The words our lips produce,

We’ll praise and pray continually,

It’s all that we will choose.

We’ll speak the truth in love to grow,

And never make excuse,

Edify and build them up,

Complaining we will lose,

From the heart’s abundance,

Our words will overflow,

We’ll tell what Jesus did for us,

So everyone can know.

And while the world is arguing,

‘Bout who is right or wrong,

We will speak it plainly,

To Jesus we belong.

Spread life with the words you say,

And leave the lies behind,

Confess Christ as the Lord of all,

And the life that they can find.

“if anyone thinks himself to be religious, and het does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.” (James 1:26, NAS)

We can’t pretend this is not important. Who we are and what we believe directly impacts what comes out of our mouths. it will ultimately be a fountain or life or death. If they could bottle up your words during the course of the day and then pour the contents of the bottle over you head at night would it make you clean or dirty? Would they have a healing effect or would they hurt you? It’s something to think about, because our words actually outlive us. People will remember our words, for better or for worse, long after we’re gone. And it’s by our words, Jesus said, we are justified or condemned. Speak life.

Lord, fill our mouths with Your praise, in Jesus’ name.
