"Just Do It"

Old Daddy said just do it,

When there was a chore to do,

Go out there, get to it,

And everybody knew,

If you showed reluctance,

Or moved too slow to suit,

Dad would show repugnance,

And you might feel his boot,

Giving you encouragement,

To hustle up and go,

Not worried ‘bout discouragement,

But wanted you to know,

That work is what we were about,

And slackers had no place,

Dad made it very clear, no doubt,

And always set the pace.

And even as an older man,

He could work you down,

His attitude was that you can,

And leave behind your frown.

The Good Book says whate’er you do,

Do it in His name,

All your effort through and through,

For Jesus and His fame.

And our hard work will silence,

Those who want to criticize,

And expose their connivance,

Might open up their eyes.

Men who work and walk the walk,

And do it ‘cause it’s right,

When it’s time to talk the talk,

They’re soldiers in the light.

Working hard and working long,

Just like it’s for the Lord,

Knows his life will soon be gone,

And heaven’s treasures stored.

When the Lord says he should wait,

He waits just like God said,

But works while waiting, won’t be late,

With faith for what’s ahead.

With him there’s no entitlement,

He keeps on keeping on,

God’s word is his enlightenment,

Till every battle’s won.

“Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” (Colossians 3:17, NAS)

“Whatever” is a big word. That means anything and everything you say and do. What if you followed every word you spoke with “in Jesus’ name.” Would it change what you say? Would you say less at times? What if everything you did was the same? Could you do it in Jesus’ name? If not, maybe it’s time to alter our behavior. Working, playing, worshipping- everything done in Jesus’ name would make a huge difference. But that’s exactly what we are called to do. In Jesus’ name…

Lord, help us live and speak on purpose, in Jesus’ name.
