"Worry"
He said don’t think about it,
He said I shouldn’t care,
That the Good Lord could be trusted,
And He was always there.
And I knew it when he said it,
It was true and he was right,
But you see it isn’t easy,
It’s worry I must fight.
I worry ‘bout the weather,
The cold and dry and rain,
And if the pastures are enough,
Or if we buy hay again.
I worry ‘bout the cattle,
If they’ll grow and healthy be,
And also ‘bout the horses,
That they’ll be all right, you see.
I worry ‘bout the children,
And all the grandkids, too,
I fear for all their safety,
With what they plan to do.
I worry ‘bout my age and strength,
How long I’ll work and do,
Or if my old heart fails me,
And I go before I’m through.
I worry if I’m not worried,
‘Cause something says to me,
If you don’t worry daily,
It’s irresponsibility.
And the devil feeds my worries,
‘Cause he torments us with fear,
And I know I should resist him,
When anxiety comes near.
O Lord, help me to trust You,
And let my worry go,
And only seek the Kingdom,
And let Your blessing flow.
You’re the One who will secure us,
And give to us Your peace,
If we walk in faith together,
To You our cares release.
To rest as we are working,
And give You all concern,
It’s the way to conquer worry,
That’s what we need to learn.
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, NLT)
What does it mean to give your worries and cares to God? Many, maybe most of us, offer a prayer to God over what concerns them, right? But do we really give it over to Him? I have literally prayed over something, turned it over to God, and then picked it up and walked away with it when I said amen! Letting go of our worry means that we intentionally, proactively surrender the situation, people, and feelings associate with the worry completely into the Lord’s hands and ask Him to take control of it. We give up any need to control or manipulate the situation, but ask the Lord to have His way. We promise to obey Him regarding what we have surrendered, and immediately surrender it again if the worry tries to come back. We keep on doing it until it becomes a habit. That’s what the Lord wants us to do with worry.
Lord, help us cast every care upon You, in Jesus’ name.
