"Yesterday"
The ones that got away it seems,
Fill the stories that we tell,
The almost and the just abouts,
On these our thoughts will dwell.
It must be ‘cause the failed attempt,
Will get stuck in our minds,
We relive and try again,
Like we think we can rewind.
But knowing in reality,
We can’t go back again,
The loop we threw that came up short,
Is a dead and gone back when.
What can we do with yesterday,
The if onlys and what ifs,
We learn from all our misses,
Avoid pitfalls and the cliffs.
Yesterday can’t be redone,
We only have today,
And when we know that now is His,
He’ll make our lives okay.
“Behold now is the acceptable time, behold now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2, NAS)
Salvation is the ongoing experience of all who give their lives to Jesus Christ. It is correct to say “I was saved,” when referring to your initial experience of being born again. It is also accurate to say “I am being saved,” referring to the power of the Holy Spirit who helps us overcome the power of sin day to day. We can also say “I will be saved” when looking forward to being with Jesus forever. In all cases the present opportunity is to cooperate with the saving grace of the Lord now. Yesterday is gone forever and tomorrow is not promised. All we have is today.
Lord, help us cooperate with Your saving grace today, in Jesus’ name.
