"Young and Done"
Some look back and really think,
That their best life is through,
That no matter what else comes,
They’re young and done, it’s true.
But how can we believe that’s it,
When we belong to Him,
And God authors our destiny,
If not our hopes are dim..
Why look back and wish for,
Something that is gone,
Looking forward’s what God wants,
And otherwise we’re wrong.
But God gives us His vision,
He shows us what can be,
And if we have faith for it,
Then we can really see,
That all things are possible,
And what has been He’ll use,
To take us where we need to go,
To light a big fire’s fuse.
Pressing on and upward,
Forgetting what is past,
Setting our sights on Jesus,
And all He says will last.
No matter what the stage of life,
We are never done,
Until the Good Lord says that we,
Are finished with life’s run.
“…but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on…” (Philippians 3:13-14, NLT)
How is it possible to forget the past? The bottom line is that we can’t. So how can Paul make this claim? It is because he is not speaking of literally forgetting, but of remembering in a different way. Paul was saying that nothing in his past could prevent him from pressing into the future God has planned for him. He has forgotten anything from the past that would hold him back or prevent him from achieving his God-given place. This is excellent advice. When we remember, whether good or bad, we learn what we can and move on. We always believe the Lord is leading us into His highest and best, and trust Him to get us there. It’s all about God-given focus and cooperating with His leadership.
Lord, help us embrace unlimited possibilities for the future, in Jesus’ name.
