“Deep”

Deep calls unto deep,

And if our peace we keep,

We must find a way to fight against,

The threat the sadness brings,

Regret with its old stings,

And I have understood this ever since,

I looked into the face,

Of depression and disgrace,

And felt my back was plumb against the wall,

The feeling was so bad,

And waves of grief so sad,

I really thought it best to end it all.

But by His grace I turned,

And finally I learned,

The hope was there if I would only see,

I had to think and pray,

To find God had a way,

For me to live the life He planned for me.

And no, it wasn’t clear,

To people I held dear,

That what I did was what I felt God say,

They didn’t understand,

Thought I’m a foolish man,

To go and do the things I’ve done this way.

And that seems a shame,

But I cannot blame,

The feelings that some reactions bring,

I always want the best,

For them and all the rest,

But bottom line surrender everything.

’Cause no one really knows,

Sometimes it clearly shows,

People don’t see what you’re going through,

And if they did they might,

Know you’re in a fight,

And you’re so down you don’t know what to do.

Lord, just bless us all,

And on You we will call,

To help us through the deepest, darkest place,

Shine Your light so we,

Dont ever have to be,

Overwhelmed when darkness hides Your face.

“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you…” (Isaiah 43:2, NLT)

It’s not the same for everyone, but we all go through deep waters. By that the prophet means hard times and challenges. It’s just how life occurs, and cannot be avoided or side-stepped. Of course we try and even deny, but to no avail. Life gets hard, and we can’t control it. We can, however, turn to the one who promises to be with us and to help us. Some refuse His help, only to realize later it was precisely what they most needed. Remember, He is not there just for them, He’s there for you. In fact, help is already on the way. Get some.

Lord, help us through the deep waters, in Jesus’ name.
