"Amigos"

When God gives you pards,

Those amigos and friends,

When life’s shattered to shards,

Because of back whens.

And they stand side by side,

Like strong trees in a row,

In them you’ll confide,

And there so you know,

That God is still with you,

His grace has ahold,

Through friends who are true,

When it’s all done and told.

The first was named Linwood,

Then old Bart, Gayle, and Brad,

There’s Jeff and yes, Kevin,

Bub and Russ, friends I’ve had.

There’s Bruce and there’s Tysen,

My friends old and new,

There’s Robert and Richard,

Top hands through and through.

There are many more brothers,

That have stood close by me,

Mentors gone to heaven,

From my past, don’t you see.

And they’ve made the difference

In the man that I am,

And stood strong with me,

When I was in a jam.

So thank God when He gives you,

Those who sharpen and stay,

So you keep on going,

And so you’ll be okay.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, NIV

God is not calling lone rangers. He is putting together a posse. We are called into spiritual relationships of support and accountability. From these we receive both encouragement and adjustment. We do not do very well if we isolate ourselves and try to fight our battles alone. It’s where two or three are gathered that we can expect the presence of the Lord in special ways. If you do not have at least two or three friends standing with you, it should be he next thing you ask the Lord to do in your life.

Lord, give us partners, in Jesus’ name.
