"Better Way"

There’s a better way of saying,

All that I want to say,

And I am always praying,

I’ll find that better way.

To describe to you the wonder,

Of His amazing grace,

All my sins and crimes gone under,

The blood shed in my place.

The colors of creation,

Can only point and stare,

With joyful adoration,

For the Son and all His care.

And if we were to paint it,

The portrait so immense,

So clearly, never taint it,

Beyond thought and this world’s sense.

And if we tried to write it,

All pens would soon run dry,

‘Cause all words that recite it,

Would fill up the whole sky.

And if we were to sing it,

With melodies and song,

Every chord and bell would ring it,

And endlessly go on.

But the best way is to show it,

By the love we give each other,

Speak truth in love to grow it,

With every enemy and brother.

In fact He says to measure,

The dimensions of His grace,

Trust Him to show the treasure,

For life’s journey and this race.

And when this life is finished,

And into His arms we fall,

What will never be diminished,

Is the grace that saved us all.

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is…” (Ephesians 3:18, NLT)

The power to understand God’s love is something that only He can reveal. And that’s exactly how it happens. Exactly how? That’s part of the mystery, and is unique to every individual. We know what we believe about it based upon what the Bible says. But do we understand it? Only if God communicates it personally to us. And love is not just an intellectual exercise. It’s about what we feel and know emotionally to be true. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to help us grasp the dimensions of God’s love. And it’s something every child of God should know.

Lord, help us fully understand the dimensions of Your love, in Jesus’ name.
