"Big Quiet"
Life is a noisy matter,
All full of cluck and clatter,
Loud calories grow fatter,
As we feed on noise each day.
There’s a reason peace and quiet,
Go together, ought to try it,
We need a better diet,
Maybe start one right away.
To be still when not just sleeping,
Draw aside, the quiet keeping,
And whether joy or weeping,
We find the silent space.
And do not try to fill it,
Or let distraction kill it,
Trust our Father wills it,
And look to see His face.
He’s there midst vast creation,
Mountain, desert, water station,
Presents a new equation,
To find just what we need.
He’s there in that big quiet,
And you just can’t deny it,
Don’t let your noise defy it,
But come, let your soul feed.
“He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He restores my soul.” (Psalm 23:2, NLTEven Jesus realized the need for His disciples to draw aside and rest awhile. He took His disciples ot the desert place, the mountain or to the sea to rest and pray. It seems that finding the quiet place needed to commune with the Lord is becoming more difficult. The noise is constant, and the dramatic spread of technology has made it even worse. Being still to know He is God and following His leadership into quiet meadows requires intentionality. God is everywhere, but our awareness of His presence is heightened when we draw aside. It’s necessary for our bodies as well as our souls. The Sabbath was given, not because God got tired, but because we do. Let Him restore your soul.
Lord, lead us beside the quiet waters, in Jesus’ name.
