"Blessing"

I thought when I was younger,

That there might come a day,

I’d make my living horseback,

But there never seemed a way.

To ever make it happen,

So I gave up that dream,

I worked hard and stayed busy,

Or so it always seemed.

But sometimes in a movie,

I’d see cowboys rope and ride,

Or maybe some old rodeo,

And then I couldn’t hide,

Form the thing that was still with me,

As a young man had a taste,

And never could forget it,

Though some thought it a waste,

Of time and thought and money,

A silly, selfish thing,

So underneath the radar,

In prayer to God I’d bring,

All this cowboy longing,

And wishing I could be,

Somewhere I could do it,

‘‘Cause it was clearly me.

And then one day it happened,

I simply walked away,

From all that argued with me,

And insisted that I stay.

Fenced by expectations,

That someone else had set,

I could never measure up,

So better off to get,

On with what was coming,

Though I didn’t know just what,

I found a new life waiting,

Though there was no short cut.

Just a long and painful journey,

But it was worth the wait,

‘Cause now I cowboy constantly,

Like someone threw a gate,

And said, ‘Go at a gallop,’

‘Cause you were born for this,

And I am so thankful,

For a plan too plain to miss.

Someone travels with me,

And she my heart can see,

And all the things I dreamed of,

She wants me to be.

And, yes, I have God’s favor,

Believe it, it is true,

And my life in the saddle,

It’s His will for me to do.

Praise Him for the journey,

And praise Him for the day,

Praise Him for cowboy blessings,

And showing me the way.
”Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you what path to take…” (Proverbs 3:4-5)

Great advice, don’t you think? Trusting Him to show us and not leaning too hard on our own ideas. Seeking His will in everything. Having Him show us what to do, instead of trying to make something happen. It all sounds so good, doesn’t it? Yes, but it can be very challenging. We are challenged to truth Him, which means we let go of fear and worry. Refusing to simply figure things out and push things through is also challenging because that’s what we’ve been taught. But waiting for God to show us? That’s something else, for sure. Acknowledging Him in everything means I refuse to do it my way. I want His will above everything else, even if it is initially uncomfortable and requires change. But the adjustments are all worth it. Why? Because He will direct you into the path He has for you. And when you find it, it’s better than anything you thought life could be.

Lord, help us live this way, in Jesus’ name.
