"Born Twice"
Another year has rushed on past,
I can’t believe it’s gone,
Was born in 1952,
And thankful I belong,
To a family who raised me well,
In the country I was raised,
The cowboy way has been my life,
With blessings that amazed.
And as I think of horses rode,
And all that I have seen,
I’m thankful to the Lord above,
He let me live my dream.
But as they say born only once,
You know that twice you die,
But born twice as Jesus said,
You die once, no lie.
And because you’re born again,
Eternity will be,
Spent with all who lived by faith,
In Jesus Christ you see.
So birthday one was ‘52,
Then at seventeen,
I gave my life to Jesus,
And His blood washed me clean.
Wish I could I say I’ve served Him well,
But that is not what’s true,
But He’s been faithful all the way,
To show me what to do.
And now that I’m an older man,
And cowboy till I die,
I know my life is in His hands,
And on Him I rely.
The day will come that is not yet,
When all birthdays will end,
But the life that goes beyond,
With Jesus will begin.
Birth one got me to the earth,
Birth two will take me out,
Those who’ve had that second birth,
Know what life is all about.
“…for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.” (1 Peter 1:23, NAS)
I am thankful that God’s Word took root in my heart and caused me to be born again. Jesus said it was necessary to experience this spiritual birth to see or enter God’s Kingdom. It is a miracle brought on by the Holy Spirit who personally makes God’s word come alive in our hearts. He “regenerates” us and our bodies become His temple. When we are given this gift, He seals us by His Spirit and enrolls us in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Jesus said we could never be snatched away from the Father’s hand. That’s because God has a strong grip.
Lord, thank You for the second birth, in Jesus’ name.
