"Call"

 Every cowboy knows it,

Whether ranch or rodeo,

Sometimes it all goes perfect,

Sometimes it’s really slow.

The missed loops and the buck-offs,

The broken barrier string,

Those durned turned-over barrels,

They just beat everything.

The weather won’t cooperate,

Cows get sick and die,

The tractor’s really hard to crank,

It’s hard to just get by.

Add to that the price of fuel,

The cost of everything,

Sometimes you have to wonder,

Is it worth the work you bring.

But every cowboy knows this, too,

It will all work out somehow,

If you just keep on trying,

Though it might be hard right now.

‘Cause underneath the try and work,

There’s something else at play,

And that’s the faith that means so much,

And makes a cowboy pray.

Pray about the problems,

The accidents, disease,

Pray about the overhead,

And ask the Good Lord, please,

To help this way of life survive,

The ranches and the farms,

That put food on our tables,

Lord, save from all alarms.

And in the end we’ll trust in Him,

The One who made us all,

We’ll work and do the best we can,

And on His name we’ll call.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” (Philippians 4:6, NLT)

The only real way to overcome worry is to put your trust in God. That’s what prayer is all about. It’s not that we are trying to talk God into doing something that He does not want to do. It’s that we are bringing all our fears, needs and concerns to Him, telling Him what we think about it, but ultimately putting it in His hands. That’s the safest place for all of our worries to be. He promises peace to those who do this, and the peace is so strong that it transcends our own ability to understand it. If I’ve really prayed about it and surrendered it to God, I may not have all the answers yet but the issue is fundamentally solved. People who do not pray or do not trust in the Lord can never have this peace. But it is within their reach! He is only a prayer away.

Lord, give us peace about every challenge we face, in Jesus’ name.
