"Wait"

Sometimes the thing that you must do,

Is just be still and wait,

And of all the things that I must do,

I can scarcely lower rate,

The times when I must do it,

That I can hardly stand,

I really am impatient,

But I know that I must plan,

On times when it just can’t be helped,

And no one is to blame,

It’s just the way that things work out,

In this old waiting game.

And I am not good at it,

Though I would like to be,

But it seems that I am learning,

Even though it’s slow for me.

Wait to hear what they will say,

Wait to make your plan,

Wait to say when it’s okay,

Wait till you’re sure you can.

Wait for God to answer,

Wait, don’t run ahead,

Wait, don’t get discouraged,

Walk in faith instead.

Learn to trust God’s timing,

That’s what we must do,

And know that He is never late,

And this is always true.

So, Lord, please give me patience,

My life is in Your hands,

You always know what’s best for me,

I surrender all my plans.

The sun will rise tomorrow,

Like all days gone before,

It will appear here in the east,

And it tells us all the more,

That some things are so constant,

And some change constantly,

But God who never changes,

Can be trusted, don’t you see.

Give no time to worry,

Nor the schedule that gives stress.

But wait on God’s good timing,

And God your life will bless.

“Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14, NLT)

Waiting on the Lord does not mean we do nothing. We continue to do the things God’s word tells us to do. We stay the course in proactively obeying God, even when we are waiting for other things to happen. At the same time, we learn to trust the Lord when we are tempted to panic and stress out when God seems slow. But God is always on time, and walking by faith means we remember His faithfulness. Put it in God’s hands, and then put it in God’s hands again. Do it everyday, and keep on trusting Him. Your wait will be rewarded, and it will be worth the wait.

Lord, teach us to wait on You, in Jesus’ name.
