"Call It"

How close can you call it,

When you’re at the old horse race,

And they’re matchin’ ‘em and runnin’,

And goin’ for first place.

And if it’s photo finish,

Could you call it right,

Or would you have to wait and see,

Can’t trust your old eyesight.

How close can you call it,

When a cowboy tops one off,

Can you judge the score he’s earning,

Before he goes aloft.

Is it eighty-nine or ninety,

Or maybe even more,

Can you tell it just by lookin’,

And say what is his score.

How close can you call it,

When a roper’s really quick,

Whether tie down or team ropin’,

And you see ‘em catch real slick.

When they’re really in a hurry,

Just tryin’ to win that go,

Can you see their run and time it,

Is it something that you know.

There are many things we’re watchin’,

But just remember this,

If you judge folks from the outside,

Their value you might miss.

And God looks on the inside,

He sees down in the heart,

Never does misjudge us,

And if we do our part,

We’ll try to see as He does,

With love for one and all,

And in the end He judges,

And that will be His call.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…” (Proverbs 3:5, NLT)

The Bibles tells us that God looks at the heart, and it is from the heart that we relate to Him. What is your heart, anyway? It’s the deepest part of who you are, made alive by the Holy Spirit when you receive salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. We are commanded to love the Lord with all our hearts, and trust Him. So much of who we are and what we do flows from the heart. It is no wonder we are counseled by scripture not to judge others. That’s because we will rarely, if ever, get it right. Besides that, it is not our place. We cannot even see ourselves accurately unless the Lord helps us, much less others.

Lord, help us to stop judging others and see their value, in Jesus’ name.
