"Calling"

Are you the one He’s calling,

Upon your heart words falling,

And now you are forestalling,

What He says to you?

But Jesus is persistent,

His Spirit is insistent,

His purpose far transcendent,

What He wants you to do.

You may have your reasons,

To postpone fruitful seasons,

When you should be pleasin’,

The One who loves you so.

His purpose is exciting,

And the Spirit is inviting,

So why should you be fighting,

Where He wants you to go?

You’ll find that there is great peace,

And all your burdens release,

And upon your life a new lease,

When you say yes to Him.

You’ll wonder why the delay,

And glad when you hear Him say,

It’s not too late for My way,

When God’s will you are in.

“Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God…” (Ephesians 4:1, NLT)

Sometimes when we think of God’s call it’s about being called into mission service or some form of ordained ministry. This perspective limits God’s calling to a select few people, who are given special, unique spiritual assignments. But, truth is, every single one of us is called by God to follow and serve Him. Listening to His call and being available to Him without reservation is the key to the adventure of being used by Him. That’s why Paul writes that we should walk worthy of His calling. It’s not that we ARE worthy, because we aren’t. But His Spirit can energize us to live up to everything God has called us to do and be. Let’s get on with it!

Lord, help us to hear, answer and follow Your calling in our lives, in Jesus’ name.
