"More"

A travelin’ through this world of woe,

Trusting God to help me go,

Saddle up, my leg I throw,

And lift up those old reins.

Lookin’ through my horse’s ears,

Still ridin’ after all these years,

The wind will blow away my fears,

And heals my heart’s old pains.

I know it’s not for everyone,

This cowboy life under the sun,

But I thank God before I’m done,

It’s been real good to me.

And, no, this isn’t heaven yet,

And miles to go before, I bet,

But days horseback I love to get,

I pray for more to be.

And when my days come to an end,

And ridin’ heaven’s range begins,

I feel like Jesus even then,

Will say something like this,

I’d got this horse here just for you,

Let’s go see how he will do,

And then we’ll ride the whole day through,

And that’s what I’d call bliss,

And by His grace won’t miss.

“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Savior…” (Philippians 3:20, NLT)

We are creatures of the earth, but because of the new birth, have become citizens of heaven. What does this mean? It means we live in a daily, ongoing relationship with the One who reigns from heaven and will one day take us home to be with Him. This will happen when we physically die, or when Jesus comes again. Either way, heaven is our eternal destiny, and something that we eagerly anticipate. Life isn’t perfect, but there is also a lot of heaven to experience on the way. There is also a lot of hell on the way to hell.

Lord, make us sure we are citizens of heaven, in Jesus’ name.
