"Christmas Gift"

There is an old-time greeting,

That people used to say,

I heard it from my Daddy,

On every Christmas day.

It wasn’t merry Christmas,

But used the same way,

It wasn’t happy holidays,

Not seasons greetings, nay.

But Christmas gift was what he shouted,

It goes back a long, long time,

The first one who could shout it out,

Received a gift just fine.

And that was what my Dad said,

We thought it somewhat strange,

I guess ‘cause it was different,

He saw no need to change.

When  you stop to think about it,

The greatest gift of all,

God’s Son born of a virgin,

And shouting out loud y’all,

Is more like the first Christmas,

Than what we do today,

And maybe our old Daddy,

Had the right words to say.

Christmas gift, let’s shout it,

The gift of God’s great love,

And life is all about it,

His best sent from above.

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us , and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, NAS)

Jesus, God’s Word, eternally existed with the Father and Spirit. But at the perfect time, God entered history in a personal, unique way. He became flesh. This is how God gifted humankind, by taking on our humanity and ultimately dying on the cross for our sins. Such love is immeasurable and without the Spirit’s revelation, incomprehensible. The gift of Christmas is life-changing because of Calvary. Christmas gift!

Lord, help us receive and cooperate with Your grace, in Jesus’ name.
