"Clay Vessel"
I ain’t lying I’m still trying,
To figure something out,
How God graces human races,
Of that there is no doubt.
But when we’re lazy even crazy,
He still give us what we need,
Lovingkindness cures our blindness,
And will our spirits feed.
Qualifies us, ne’er denies us,
When at His throne of grace,
Cast what weights us and berates us,
As we humbly seek His face.
Invites the willing, Spirit filling,
The vessel weak of clay,
Light and treasure without measure,
Can be ours come what may.
So the power every hour,
Is from Jesus, not from us,
Faith’s foundation, grace’s ration,
So divinely He adusts.
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.” (2 Corinthians 4:7, NAS)
The treasure of which Paul speaks is the presence of God’s Spirit. In every sense the Spirit does through us what would otherwise be impossible. But an earthen, clay vessel can be an effective tool in the hands of God. Why? Because it will become obvious to anyone who’s really paying attention that there’s just no way we could make an eternal impact otherwise. It has to be the Lord doing what He alone can do, therefore people’s expectation is directed to the Lord. He does not disappoint.
Lord, teach us our lives are all about You living through us, in Jesus’ name.
