"Delight"

Delight yourself, yes take delight,

In what the Lord has said,

And all desires that fill your heart,

Will to you be led.

Trust the Lord with all your heart,

Commit your life and say,

I am holding nothing back,

I’m going all the way.

Find your rest there with the Lord,

Wait on Him and see,

If His timing you can trust,

‘Cause late He’ll never be.

Turn away from anger,

Don’t fuss and fume and fret,

When you see evil prosper,

God will judge them yet.

He will give you what you need,

Supply all that you lack,

He gladly gives us perfect gifts,

And we don’t pay Him back.

Because His love is based on grace,

He gives so generously,

He even graces evil folk,

And those who don’t agree.

Sometimes they say they love you,

But they don’t really know,

Who you are and what you’ve done,

It all could change and so,

You can’t really trust them,

But God who knows you best,

Has said He really loves you,

And better than the rest.

Strength for this life’s journey,

No matter if it’s rough,

None can separate us,

His love is strong enough.

And when this life is over,

His love will see us through,

Because we’ve put our trust in Him,

He promised and will do.

Delight yourself, yes take delight,

In all the Lord has said,

And all the desires of your heart,

Will to you be led.

“Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires…” (Ps. 37:4, NLT)

Here is a powerful and profound promise from God! Delight in Him and He will do what? Give you your heart’s desires! Do you believe it’s true? I do! What does it mean to delight in Him? Simply to love Him, trust Him, and surrender our lives to Him. There are two sides to this: delighting and receiving from God our heart’s desires. Part of delighting is surrendering what I want to Him. Sometimes those desires remain and others are changed. Some of the things we thought we wanted when we first started delighting in the Lord don’t even matter to us now. Why? Because He has changed our desires. But some things remain, and according to the promise, God is glad to give us wonderful, good and perfect gifts. One other aspect of this promise is its timing. Life may be too short for God to give us all our heart’s desires, so I believe the promise applies to what will happen in heaven, too. If any of our heart’s desires are unfulfilled in this life, they will be given to us in the next. Either way, it’s a wonderful thing to know that if we delight in Him, He will come through!

Lord, help us always delight in You, in Jesus’ name.
