"Way"

If there’s a way around it,

You know they’d find a way,

But no one ever found it,

No matter what they say.

And that’s the same truism,

Applies to all the same,

Though it may cause a schism,

It makes an awesome claim.

Jesus is the speaker,

Of this awesome word,

And every sincere seeker,

Will never be deterred.

If they embrace the answer,

So simple and so clean,

That Jesus heals the cancer,

Of our sins so cruel and mean.

He claimed to be the only way,

The truth and only life,

Now the Father’s Son will say,

He comes to heal our strife.

Raises many questions,

‘Bout those who never heard,

And some have reservations,

‘Bout judgment once incurred.

But I agree with Jesus,

When He had His say,

The statement may not please us,

But He’s the only way.

I can trust Him always,

With all who disagree,

By faith we trust in His ways,

For Him to set us free.

I point to the Savior,

The life, the truth, the way,

Thank Him for His favor,

And celebrate the day.

“Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6)

If one accepts that the gospels accurately report what Jesus said, perhaps the greatest claim He ever made is found here. It leaves us with only three options. Jesus thought He was the only way to the Father and really wasn’t, which would make Him mentally unbalanced. A second is that Jesus claimed to be the only way to the Father while knowing He really wasn’t, which would make Him a liar and imposter. The third and final option is that Jesus really is who He claimed to be. It is a simple, yet profound truth. He pointed to Himself as the way of salvation. It is possible to believe this entirely and not become judgmental toward others. In fact, the stronger we believe it, the more compassionate we will be. Jesus is the way.

Lord, help us to fully accept and celebrate the way, the truth, and the life, in Jesus’ name.
