"Dream"

I had a dream the other night,

And not sure why I did,

A fellow drove into our place,

Not much more than a kid.

He wore a cowboy hat and boots,

I liked his humble way,

So much so he stayed with us,

Starting on that day.

He helped me feed and work on fence,

Cleared the brush to burn,

Rode the colts and tossed his rope,

And never shirked his turn.

One evenin’ after supper,

He asked me to explain,

What the Bible had to say,

About how we attain,

Salvation when it’s time to die,

How we can know for sure,

We can miss the fires of hell,

Find Jesus as the cure.

He used to be a soldier,

Had seen war close and real,

He’d lost many friends that way,

And wondered how to feel.

I told him of the Savior,

Showed him the words in red,

Explained the cross and empty tomb,

And what the Good Book said.

He prayed and gave his life that night,

He felt God give him peace,

He thanked me for the words I shared,

His soul found strong release.

And soon he said it’s time to go,

We had to say good-bye,

We told him he must stay in touch,

He promised that he’d try.

And that’s the dream and I woke up,

It seemed so real to me,

I prayed for all our fightin’ boys,

That they would come to see,

How to find the Savior’s grace,

No matter where they are,

That they would give their lives to Him,

Whether near or stationed far.

I guess now I’m expecting,

Someone I’ll befriend,

And the opportunity,

To talk and then extend,

The offer of amazing grace,

The new life found in Jesus,

He can make it happen soon,

And He always sees us.

A dream that helps me hear Him say,

I’ll advertise through you,

And when the open door is there,

It’s what I plan to do.

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20, NAS)

Being an ambassador means that we represent someone else. As their representative, what people learn is what we show them. We really are God’s advertisement and He really is making His appeal through us. As someone has said, “We’re the only Bible some people will ever read.” The amazing truth is that we get to partner with Him on His mission to save the world through Jesus Christ. What a wonderful honor!

Lord, make Your appeal through us, in Jesus’ name.
