"Easy Yoke"
Peaceful, quiet and easy,
The yoke and burden His,
And if more people knew it,
Let me tell you this,
They’d all come to Jesus,
And never hesitate,
Leave all behind and quickly,
Make no excuse or wait.
‘Cause strong relief He offers,
To teach us how to live,
And He does it oh so gently,
The grace He’ll freely give.
And that is why I’m standing,
Right here beside the door,
So those who are searching,
Won’t miss it anymore.
I’ll say the peace is this way,
And grab them by the hand,
And if their soul is ready,
To accept the Good Lord’s plan,
They’ll press on in and see it,
All they’ve been searching for,
And when the Savior saves them,
They’re healed down to the core.
Hallelujah, He is waiting,
He draws them to the yoke,
And says it’s made to fit you,
By the Carpenter’s skilled stroke.
Abundant and eternal,
The life that He described,
The Good Book says that on His hands,
You’ll find our names inscribed.
So peaceful and so easy,
The yoke and burden, too,
Because it comes from Jesus,
Especially for you.
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29, NIV)
Everyone is looking for soul rest. Confused intellectually, heart-broken emotionally, and clueless in our choice-making, we need help. And life without God’s help is exhausting. Jesus promises relief and rest, but only on His terms. He offers an easy yoke and a light burden. Compared to what? Compared to the bondage of selfish living and the addictions and obsessions that go with it. Accepting the yoke of Jesus means we embrace His leadership of our lives and are willing to change as He sees fit. But the peace that comes is worth any sacrifice we make to accept the yoke.
Lord, give us Your rest for our souls, in Jesus’ name.
