"Fake"
This old world in which we live,
Promises a good life to give,
But gosh it leaks just like a sieve,
And never fills you up.
Everything is outward show,
How you look, not what you know,
And all that talk is wind to blow,
It’s all an empty cup.
I see those in cowboy world,
Who’ve never had a rope uncurled,
Yet wear a hat, their snaps are pearled,
They’ll tell you how it’s done.
I don’t mind a wanna-be,
Imitation’s flattery,
But posing just so folks will see,
From those I want to run.
Authentic is where we belong,
Not some self-promotion song,
Honesty will keep us strong,
And never try to fake.
Jesus looks upon the heart,
Calls each one to do their part,
From inside-out, a brand-new start,
Our selfish pride to shake.
“For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions…” (1 John 2:16, NLT)
The world system competes with what God’s word teaches us is important. That’s why John tells us not to love the world, because it turns on all the wrong stuff. Truth is, the stuff will never satisfy anybody anyway. They can never get enough, because it cannot meet the deep spiritual need of the heart. Only God can fill that vacuum, and until He does, we’re running on empty.
Lord, help us to love You and not the world, in Jesus’ name,
