"Runaway"
Have you ever had a runaway,
That’s hard to rein back in,
A horse that’s spooked and running,
Unpredictable and when,
You finally get that cayuse stopped,
You look around to see,
Where you have been travelin’,
Versus where you ought to be.
Life can be a runaway,
That you’d just like to stop,
A hundred miles an hour,
And both the reins you drop.
Most know they are running,
But not quite sure just where,
Often in a hurry,
Won’t know till they get there.
It’s not where they were aiming,
‘Cause they didn’t aim at all,
But full speed they are flying,
And nothing can forestall,
Their passion for whatever,
On the way to parts unknown,
Maybe ‘fore they get there,
A new way could be shown.
So pray that we can just slow down,
Enough to take a look,
At where it is we’re headed,
And maybe even read the Book.
About some righteous choices,
Starting with a Jesus yes,
To find a new direction,
He will show us to His best.
So see if you can catch a rein,
And pull with all your might,
To get that pony challenged,
And turned back toward the light.
Jesus is the way, you see,
That’s always right and true,
And he will bring you to the way,
And show you what to do.
Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me…” (John 14:6, NLT)
When Jesus made this statement it was in the context of His future relationship with the disciples after His death and resurrection. He promised that He would return for them after preparing a place for them in heaven. Then He made the bold statement that He was the only way to the Father. This is a powerful and unique claim which offers only three options. He was wrong and knew it, which would make Jesus a liar. He was wrong and didn’t know it, which would make Jesus a lunatic. Third and final option, He was not wrong. Of all the ways we as human beings can travel, knowing Jesus is the only way that leads home. Choose wisely.
Lord, we receive You as the truth, the way, and the life, in Jesus’ name.
