"Fast or Slow"
I learned a long, long time ago,
Unlike old TV cowboys’ show,
The workin’ hands go kinda slow,
When they ride to get things done.
The crowd that galloped all around,
Chasing all the outlaws down,
In real life just can’t be found,
Surprise to some, I know.
When as a kid I tagged along,
The strategy to get cows gone,
Toward quiet and steady we were prone,
Things worked out best that way.
And now with all these years gone by,
With horseback men I go to try,
I’ve noticed all the reasons why,
We have a better day.
Don’t crowd the cattle, what they say,
And I agree cause come what may,
A gunsel’s bound to soon display,
His need to shout and run.
And sometimes we must do that, too,
But only if we’re forced to do,
Herd-quitters we have roped a few,
Before the day is done.
But slow and steady is the best,
And often faster than the rest,
Who rip and run our patience test,
When it is round-up time.
So walk, trot, lope to get it done,
The gather proves to be more fun,
Might pen ‘em all with setting sun,
And it all works out fine.
“He has made everything appropriate in its time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:8, NAS)
Have you ever wondered about God’s timing? Most of us have, and particularly if something we are praying about seems delayed. More times than not it’s something like that, and not because we felt God moved too fast to suit us! Of course when He wants us to change it feels like a rush at times. But God is always on time. Faith means we learn to trust His timing, no matter what. God is faithful.
Lord, help us to trust Your timing, in Jesus’ name.
