"Fear Not"
Backed his horse into the box,
And full of nerves was he,
Nodded for the steer to run,
And laced him, don’t you see.
Heeler got him double-hocked,
They got a decent time,
In spite of nerves and worry,
They got it done just fine.
The bronc he drew was mighty rank,
Had thrown off the last three,
Got his stirrups set just right,
But there’s no guarantee,
That when the chute gate opens,
He’ll ride and get a score,
But this time it all worked out,
He rode him to the door.
They asked him if he’d like to sing,
Our nation’s anthem song,
At the start of our old rodeo,
Where we’ve always belonged.
My brother really has a voice,
That man can get it done,
But nervous, yes, as he could be,
But I told him, son,
Something he already knew,
And that was clear to see,
Sang the song just like a champ,
Like it was meant to be.
Okay, you see, to be afraid,
‘Cause that’s the way it goes,
But never let it stop you,
And everybody knows,
Who ever threw his catch twine,
Or rode a bucking mount,
Or a thousand other things folks do,
And far too much to count.
But nervous when they did it,
And not sure that they could,
Though they had a song to sing,
Not sure that they would.
It made me just remember,
When we laid my Daddy low,
They rang the bell eleven times,
His send off for to go.
And I know the Good Lord spoke to me,
Said time to ring the bell,
If there’s something you can do,
Or someone you can tell.
Don’t let your worries win the fight,
Or be too scared to ring,
Do the deed, just get it done,
You’ve got a song to sing.
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God…” (Isaiah 41:10, NLT)
Everyone has worries and fears, especially when they’re being led to do somethig that is challenging or makes them feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it actually makes them feel physically sick. But we are capable of doing so much more than we think. If we trust in the Lord to help us overcome our reservations about stepping out in faith to do something new, He will give us the peace and confidence we need to get things done. We can, in Jesus’ name, so we should.
Lord, help us overcome every fear, in Jesus’ name.
