"Foundation"

Don’t care what you’re building,

The foundation must be sure,

For all you build upon it,

To stay strong and endure.

Many unwise people,

Start out haphazardly,

They find out much later,

That’s not how it should be.

Lay out the beginning,

Slowly and with care,

Try hard not to hurry,

What you measure and put there.

Maybe you’re starting out a colt,

And building equine trust,

Helping him to stop his fear,

For the outcome it’s a must.

Are you entrusted with a child,

To teach them life’s right way,

Showing love and discipline,

A foundation sure to stay.

And what about your partner,

The spouse God gave to you,

Keeping Christ the center,

Your love’s foundation, too.

What we’re building matters,

Built on doing what Christ said,

Never build on shifting sand,

But on the rock instead.

“Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock…” (Matthew 7:24, NLT)

Jesus makes listening and obeying the foundational principle of life. Listening means we are attentive to what the Lord is calling us to do and be. But knowing His will is not enough. It is only when we actually do what He says that our lives excel in God’s eyes. Storms are inevitable. The life that is built on hearing and doing God’s word will withstand the test. All others will collapse. May we build wisely.

Lord, help us build our lives on the rock of listening and obeying, in Jesus’ name.
