"Friend"

You don’t need a room full,

In a lifetime it is true,

But fortunate and highly blessed,

If you have one or two.

I’m speaking of true friendship,

And I don’t mean “fair weather,”

But those whom you can count on,

No matter what or whether,

They get folks’ approval,

Or care what people think,

‘Cause if that’s what they care about,

True confidence will sink.

But that’s just the definition,

There’s always loyalty,

They’ll stick close, that is no boast,

And show fidelity.

They’ll sharpen you and love you,

And pull you from the edge,

Of calamity, disaster,

And talk you off that ledge.

And when you’re in a valley,

They come and lead you out,

And when you’re on the mountain,

They’ll clap and with you shout.

And here’s something amazing,

Jesus calls us friends,

If we choose to follow,

And go just where He sends.

What a friend in Jesus,

That’s how the old song goes,

His death and resurrection,

To us God’s friendship shows.

And you know some will fail you,

It’s just the way it is,

But He will never leave you,

If in fact you’re His.

Thank the Lord for friendship,

For every friend that’s true,

And thank You for the Friend of friends,

Lord Jesus, it is You!

“A friend is always loyal, and a. brother is born to help in time of need…” (Proverbs 17:17, NLT)

The book of Proverbs has a lot to say about true friendship and its value. If God graces you with a few friends you are blessed indeed. Where two or three spiritual partners gather, Christ promised His presence. Where two or three agree in prayer, God answers in special ways. Just two or three friends become a catalyst for great spiritual power and blessing. Of course, best of all, Jesus calls us His friend, and He has become the Friend of friends to us.

Lord, thank You for being our friend, and teach us how to be loyal friends to others, in Jesus’ name.
