"Gender"
Dad taught me back when I was young,
The bovine difference see,
Between a heifer and a bull,
The importance there to be.
Knew a steer was what it was,
By what they took away,
Destined for hamburger steak,
And weight gain’s what held sway.
Bulls and heifers were the ones,
Who reproduced the breed,
And steers were only needed,
For the hungry world to feed.
And really no confusion,
‘Bout what they were and why,
But that’s not how the world is,
‘Cause it now believes the lie,
That you can just identify,
With what you want to be,
No matter what the facts are,
Or what your own eyes see.
God in the beginning,
Created us this way,
Made ‘em male and female,
In His image come what may.
So go ahead and take your pick,
And do what you must do,
But I learned down on the ranch,
Loud lies don’t make it true.
“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created Him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27, NIV)
Male and female reflect the image of God. From the beginning gender was God’s idea and God’s plan. Either we embrace what the Bible says is true, or we reject it. When we redefine what God has defined, we distort what is most fundamental in understanding our humanity and need for the Creator. Once His word and will are discarded, anything goes. And that is what has happened in our secular culture. What is most interesting is that the emotion-based redefinition of sexuality does not conform to medical science or even common sense. We are treading on incredibly thin ice when we pursue this course. But worse still, we are elevating human subjectivity to a whole new level of idolatry. The net effect is not only deeply irrational and irresponsible, but also morally reprehensible.
Lord, help us to accept Your definition of gender, in Jesus’ name.
