"Godly Men"

In the fellowship of godly men,

And most, not all, were old,

Silver streaked their whiskers,

But their words were solid gold.

I’ve listened to their stories,

As the campfire smoked and popped,

And thought I should remember this,

And hoped they never stopped.

I’ve watched their tears and laughter,

I’ve seen ‘em trembling stand,

While others caved and ran away,

Showed strength to beat the band.

And some of them were cowboys,

And most worked with their hands,

Knew how to drink the quiet in,

Temptation to withstand.

A firm handshake and steely eye,

They promised loyalty,

And what they said you know they’d do,

It’s who they are, you see.

And, Lord, we need the men to be,

Yours and nothing more,

Than godly in identity,

So no matter what’s in store.

You send them to the devil fight,

And they are not for hire,

Cannot be bought, they do not quit,

They run into the fire.

To bring out those they’re sent to save,

And freely do they give,

Just like the grace they have received,

And thankful so to live.

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything with love.” (1 Corinthians 16:13-14, NIV)

The day of gender confusion is upon us. But God was not confused when He created us in His image as male and female. When we assume our God-given identity, the doing flows from our being. We are able to engage in spiritual battle without second-guessing and intimidation from our unseen enemy. We live on purpose and use spiritual weaponry to dismantle strongholds that argue with God’s truth. We have the grace to be all we were created to be. Such is the life of every true disciple of Jesus Christ. Courage is granted for every challenge and strategy for every battle.

Lord, grant us courage, in Jesus’ name.
