"Gloaming"

There is a silence in the gloaming,

That still makes sounds you know,

The wildlife often roaming,

Through the pasture’s grass so slow.

The insects with their buzzing,

And the birds their evening song,

The horses gentle nuzzling,

And the shadows grow so long.

It’s in that sweet home twllight,

That I find relief,

It has become the highlight,

God comes, it’s my belief.

As God called that first couple,

Adam, where are you?

From all our toil and trouble,

We hear Him speak, it’s true.

My coffee cup in one hand,

The other hand in hers,

We sit and watch because we can,

And listen close, the verse,

Of praise from God’s creation,

The evening chorus sings,

Sometimes new revelation,

The Holy Spirit brings.

The day is gone, the future calls,

Come, grow old with me,

None that’s happened can forestall,

The best that’s yet to be.

Praises for the moonlit night,

Praise for the day that’s done,

Praises for the Son of light,

And all that is to come.

“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end…” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NLT)

God plants eternity in our hearts while directing our lives to unfold day by day. Time and eternity are linked by His presence, and because He is with us and in us by the Holy Spirit, the hours and the days are touched by heaven. Creation praises and so should we. At the beginning and ending of the day are special moments of worship and recognizing God’s presence. Genesis tells us God walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the evening. After they sinned, that’s when God came calling Adam’s name. This was certainly not because God did not know where he was, but because Adam had become lost. This is a great reminder to each of us. Don’t get so busy and caught up in what’s happening in time that we forget eternity. Welcome the presence of the Lord at day’s end. You’ll be glad you did.

Lord, help us live each day fully aware and thankfully acknowledging Your presence in our lives, in Jesus’ name.
