"Goose-neck"
Led my horse off of the trailer,
Unsaddled her and fed,
Backed up that old gooseneck,
Got it loose from my truck bed.
But then I had a failure,
It makes you feel a fool,
Forgot to let the tailgate down,
A simple little rule.
Drove off without thinking,
I heard an awful sound,
Looked in the rear-view mirror,
Glad no one was around.
And, no, it’s not life-changing,
To crush your tailgate down,
But everyone who does it,
Feels just like a clown.
Life’s little irritations,
Can really stress you out,
And if we are not careful,
We’ll forget what life’s about.
Let go of all the worry,
Focus on what’s right,
Praise the Lord in spite of,
Keep walkin’ in the light.
“Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me… (Psalm 103:2, NLT)
It’s easy to forget or at least lose focus on the good things God does. But life can certainly be irritating, can’t it? It’s then that we do better to remind ourselves how blessed we have been. The old hymn “Count Your Blessings” comes to mind. The song encourages us to actually name our blessings one by one. Wouldn’t it be something if we actually sat down and made a list. My guess is that if we did, we would be blessed even more. A heart filled with thanksgiving has very little room for complaints.
Lord, help us to count our blessings, in Jesus’ name.
