"Insane"

Some folks thought him crazy,

When he left his life of sin,

Gave his life to Jesus,

And, man, he went all in.

Church and Bible study,

Praying before he ate,

Not afraid to testify,

And he was never late.

See, he is a cowboy,

Had wild and wooly ways,

And he is still a cowboy,

But away from sin he stays.

Some just can’t cope with it,

They think he’s lost his mind,

Quick they are to label him,

And willing to fault-find.

But he will say he was insane,

Not too long ago,

Because he tried to drink it all,

And drug himself up so.

He says it was insanity,

When he used up girls for fun,

And always on the prod to fight,

Hurt you ‘fore he’s done.

And now he says his heart is changed,

Forgiven he forgives,

Will not hold a grudge it seems,

It’s no longer how he lives.

He’s still good to his horses,

He earns an honest wage,

But more patient with the younger hands,

Less apt to show his rage.

Humbled at the cross of Christ,

He knows amazing grace,

You can see it in the way he lives,

And the peace upon his face.

Be careful what you call insane,

And what is normal, see,

Just because it’s popular,

It may not ought to be.

And when you see a fool for Christ,

Remember that it’s true,

We ought to ask the question,

Just who’s fool are you?

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)

Christ alone has the power to make us into new people and give us a new life. Yes, people can make all sorts of changes through human effort and motivation. People do it all the time- stop smoking, lose weight, etc., etc. But the ultimate need of the human soul is to be saved, and only the Lord can do that. When He give us saving grace it will outwardly manifest in a whole, new life. Does every single thing change overnight? Hardly. But is there a definite shift from darkness to light? Definitely! What may seem foolish to the world makes perfect sense in God’s Kingdom. Becoming a fool for Christ is God’s new normal.

Lord, help us live full-out and all-in for You, in Jesus’ name.
