"Graze Along"

 Their grazin’s pretty constant,

Just what those horses do,

They move along and graze along,

As the day goes by, it’s true.

They’ll dive in on a bait of feed,

And love alfalfa hay,

But what they really want to do,

Is graze along all day.

This brought up a memory,

From my Daddy long ago,

Whenever he would go somewhere,

Took a “grazing bag” you know.

He’d fill it with some peanuts,

Crackers, candy, too,

He always brought more than enough,

So as to share with you.

The experts say it’s healthier,

To eat more times a day,

I wouldn’t argue with it,

With me that sounds okay.

But wouldn’t it be something,

If on God’s word we fed,

Not just every now and then,

But graze along instead.

The Good Books says it plainly,

It’s not by bread alone,

But by the words the Good Lord speaks,

That’s how our lives are grown.

And makes more sense if steadily,

Like breathing in the air,

We graze along on what God says,

And find life’s answers there.

“…the word of the Lord remains forever…” (1 Peter 1:25, NLT)

God’s word, what God said and what He is saying, fills our lives with eternal value. Whatever is not based upon God’s will and God’s word is temporary, but life built on hearing and doing God’s word has a strong foundation. People come and go, as well as their beauty, but God’s word beautifies our lives eternally. A steady diet of God’s word will transform our lives, and give us calories we can spend helping others.

Lord, help us consistently consume the truth of Your word, in Jesus’ name.
