"Grow"

So many things I’d like to know,

And things I need to learn,

So many know much more than me,

Hope their respect I earn.

Not trying to sound modest,

The Good Lord knows it’s true,

Always some who need your help,

And those who can help you.

All of us have heartbreak,

All have suffered loss,

All learn things the hard way,

All have paid the cost,

Of those expensive lessons,

Time and treasure waste,

When we got in a hurry,

And all because of haste,

Had those consequences,

And reaped the seed we sow,

Thank God we survived it,

So we could finally know,

That if we hate the harvest,

Stop planting those old seeds,

And then the harvest changes,

And we won’t reap those weeds.

Keep on, keep on learning,

More and more of Him,

His loving ways unsearchable,

And peace that will transcend,

All we can imagine,

And all our minds can think,

Deliver us from danger,

And save us from the brink,

 Of letting old deception,

Lead our lives astray,

Instead be filled with wisdom,

And get some everyday.

Knowing that the Spirit,

Renewing thoughts will give,

And keep us ever-growing,

And more like Christ to live.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, He should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault…” (James 1:5, NIV)

How would you define wisdom? Here’s one definition: Wisdom is the ability to clearly see the consequences that a choice creates before the choice is actually made. Does that make sense to you? The scriptures tells us that we reap what we sow, and makes clear that every choice is a seed we plant that will create our life’s harvest. Not everything that happens is a result of what we choose, but even how we respond to trials and tragedy determines what happens next. So when we go through trials and testing, James says we can consider it joyful because of the results produced by the process. That’s also why he counsels us to ask for wisdom. The promise is that God gives wisdom generously and faults no one for asking. That’s good news! If not, God would probably look at us and say something like, “Oh, it’s you again with that same old problem? Can’t you ever get this right?!” But that’s not what He says. He welcomes us, finds no fault with us, and grants us wisdom so that we can choose wisely. Get some.

Lord, give us wisdom for every decision we have to make, in Jesus’ name.
