"Healing"

I know the Lord heals sickness,

He does it all the time,

Sometimes He uses doctors,

And medicine just fine.

Sometimes it’s more directly,

When nothing else will do,

The healing is miraculous,

And we all know it’s true.

That’s why we pray for healing,

And strong in faith believe,

Our God is a Healer,

And we can grace receive,

To touch and heal our bodies,

And to health restore,

Thank God when it happens,

And pray it happens more.

But sometimes goes the other way,

People suffer and they die,

Though prayers of faith are prayed for them,

And many tears are cried.

And no one knows just why it is,

We’re not in heaven yet,

But truth be known, it’s in His hands,

And wisdom we can get,

If we ask Him humbly,

And open up our hearts,

Trust His plan completely,

Step up and do our part.

We walk by faith, not seeing,

All God has in store,

But step by step we’re feeling,

He opens the right door.

Sometimes He changes everything,

A wonder when He does,

And sometimes changes how we are,

We give Him praise because,

In any case the grace we need,

Will always be enough,

Our life and health are in His hands,

Though illness is so tough.

So pray for our friends’ healing,

We pray in Jesus’ name,

We ask for healing miracles,

His promises we claim.

And in the end we say that,

Not ours, His will be done,

So that all that happens,

Brings glory to the Son.

“…the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them…” (Luke 4:40, NIV)

Healing is a mystery in so many ways. But to think the One who created the human body cannot heal the human body is ludicrous. Certainly He can! And the ministry of Jesus was all about preaching the Kingdom, casting our devils, and healing the sick. It’s what Jesus did everywhere He went. The healing tradition continued through the apostles and later through elders of local churches who were instructed to anoint with oil and pray for the sick to be healed. Yet not all are healed, and we wonder why. It’s a mystery we have to live with, even with modern medicine and technology to help us. God uses it all, and we pray for miracles, while acknowledging He sometimes allows people to suffer and, yes, die. All of this will be completely removed one day when every enemy submits to Jesus and death itself is destroyed. Until then, we pray for miracles and God’s will to be done.

Lord, heal our sicknesses, in Jesus’ name.
