"Heat"
Dead-blamed heat, for love of pete,
We really need some rain.
Be so sweet, a down-pour greet,
To relieve this dry and pain.
Remember when, not far back then,
I prayed that rain would stop,
We had a flood, right in our hood,
Enough to float a rock.
And we got snow, a lot I know,
For this part of the world,
So cold it was, I remember ‘cause,
My long-johns I unfurled.
So often we, can fickle be,
No matter how it blows,
It’s something else, what we once felt,
Is what we surely chose.
So one thing’s sure, we will endure,
And there will soon be change,
The seasons go and don’t you know,
Our wardrobes rearrange.
And when it’s wet, we might forget,
How bad it was when dry,
It’s best to be, thankful you see,
At least by grace let’s try.
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus…” (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NLT)
Learning to be thankful in all circumstances can be an uphill climb. When things are going well, no problem. But when the season is challenging, well, that’s another story. But praising God through the hard times is an act of intentional faith. What we’re doing is recognizing that Jesus is Lord over every situation, and His grace really is sufficient for every need. Being thankful keeps us focused on God’s solution and will keep us more positive about life overall. And if we consistently thank the Lord rather than complain we will be different from almost everyone else. Praise up.
Lord, teach us to be thankful, even when it’s hot and we need rain, in Jesus’ name.
