"Hero Help"

When the cowboys give up tryin’,

‘Cause their horses will not run,

And the laughter turns to cryin’,

And this life has lost its fun.

And the bad guys all are winnin’,

And the good guys just can’t stand,

And the devil is a-grinnin’,

‘Cause he’s got his fire all fanned.

We’re lookin’ for a someone,

Who knows that giants fall,

You can’t always find one,

Who’ll stand up and stand tall.

But then the Good Lord sends ‘em,

And you don’t want to miss,

The hero looks unlikely,

The princess might not kiss.

But he’s the one we’re needing,

Yes, he knows what God can do,

Though he may seem unlikely,

But makes it no less true.

And now the fight is breaking,

And the giant makes his boast,

But the hero gives no quarter,

‘Cause he’s trustin’ God the most.

And now the giant’s falling,

And the ground shakes with the fall,

And the hero takes to running,

‘Cause he can hear the call,

Of the next round that is making,

The battle trumpets sound,

And this time there’s an army,

More heroes have been found.

That’s just the way it happens,

First there’s only one,

We pray that we can find ‘em,

And then they finally come.

But then the inspiration,

Of having that big win,

Brings more fighters to it,

Next time the fight begins.

So never give up hoping,

When evil shows its face,

God will raise up heroes,

Who come and set the pace.

“…The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart…” (1 Samuel 16:7, NLT)

Perhaps the hardest thing we ever do as human beings is to understand why we and others do what we do. It is very challenging to connect the dots between what and why. This is about discernment and seeing the way God sees. Simply put, we don’t, and need God’s help with it. God never misjudges, and cannot be deceived by what “appears to be.” The Lord looks at the heart. That’s why we have the tendency to miss what God is doing and those He chooses to use. He consistently picks people we overlook, and uses them to do things we consider impossible. They don’t begin as heroes, but that’s what they become when the Lord anoints them. At the very least this should teach us to rein in our opinions when we think we know something. It could be we’re judging something or someone by the outward appearance and not the heart.

Lord, help us not to misjudge others, but look at them the way You do, in Jesus’ name.
