"Holy"

Holy ground and holy moments,

The hush of holy times,

When God with His great presence,

Shows up within our climes.

Holy memories, holy verbiage,

Holy people filled with power,

Holy, holy, holy,

The words fill every hour.

And you might think I’m crazy,

When I call sunrise the same,

Or when the quiet of evening,

Bears that holy name.

I find just there His presence,

As much as Sunday church,

The holiness engulfs us,

‘Cause God is on the search,

For those whom He can welcome,

And with His Spirit fill,

‘Cause His great Holy Spirit,

Brings cure to all our ill.

The holy will surround us,

And we should let Him in,

Holy, holy, holy,

Let the holiness begin.

“But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy. because I am holy.’” (1 Peter 1:15-16, NLT)

The basic definition of the word “holy” is to be separate. God is separate from us because He is without sin. We are called, by His grace, to be like Him. But being holy doesn’t rate very high on people’s aspirations list. People are much more likely to say God wants them to be happy, rather than holy. Also, there is the negative connotation that to be holy means to be judgmental toward others. Having a “holier-than-thou” attitude is avoided and, in the process, all ideas of about becoming holy are discarded. Truth is, it’s what God wants from us. Being holy means we are surrendered to His will and committed to changing our behavior with His help. Being holy is not a suggestion from God. It’s a command. The good news is that holiness is where real happiness lives. The party of holiness is like none other.

Lord, help us be holy like You, in Jesus’ name.
